Whether you are a stay at home mom or if you are a mom who works outside of the home, depression or depressive like feelings can occur. Do you want to know why that is? Because too much of anything can cause overload and it always looks greener on the other side. The best solution is to create a balance.
If you are a stay at home mom and are feeling depressed, there are several reasons why this could be. (*DISCLAIMER- I am not a substitute for professional help, so please seek help if you need to. There is no shame in that!).
- Do you get out of the house enough?
- Do you stress about money?
- Do you feel isolated?
- Are you lonely?
- Are you getting enough sleep?
- Do you wish you had more “me time”?
Many stay at home moms don’t get enough sleep, don’t take enough time for themselves, and don’t communicate with adults enough therefore feeling isolated. If this sounds like you, there are ways to get out of this *rut*. First and foremost, try to get more sleep. Obviously you have heard, nap when your child naps. Unfortunately, many of us do not take this advice. We really should!
If a child refuses to nap, it is still important for him to have “quiet time”. During quiet time, it might be possible to get some rest. If you have a significant other in your life, it is important for him to recognize that you need more beauty sleep. If he isn’t convinced, tell him usually more beauty sleep means more energy for you and him.
On a serious note, it is important for your spouse/significant other to understand your needs as well, which means more sleep! Usually when moms get more sleep, we are more focused. We have more energy. We spend more quality time with our kids and our significant others. I know, I know. Easier said than done.
Maintaining a balance is very important. It is important to get out of the house and get some fresh air. Schedule a lunch or play date with some friends. Facebook can be your friend when arranging play dates. Do you miss making money? Come up with a way to make extra money. I will be blogging about making money online soon, so check back for those posts. Making extra money can also be ways to reduce spending money also! Create a schedule of things to do for the day and follow it! Force yourself to do something that you want to do but make excuses and you never get around to doing it. Remember, too much of anything can cause problems. Balance is the key!

You are so right about a balance!! Sleep is very important to my schedule and I certainly need more of it!
